Workshop Paint Health and Safety

As with all paints for home improvement projects there are health and safety concerns with workshop paint. There are two types of paint, latex and enamels. They both contain solvents which give off vapours. These vapours may cause health problems, particularly to people who suffer from asthma or other lung disorders.

High exposure to these vapours may cause irritation to the nose, throat and eyes. However, there are preventions anyone painting their workshop can take. The area should be kept well ventilated with windows and doors left open. Anyone prone to breathing difficulties should wear a face mask. If it is possible the workshop should be clear of people not involved in the painting while the work continues. Once the painting has finished the workshop should be vacated while the paint dries.

These precautions are essential if no-one is going to suffer any adverse effects while the workshop is being painted.
